About the Artists:
Carol Berry has been drawn to figure drawing since she was a small girl, when she was the only child in a figure drawing group. Her passion for art has followed her through life, and she drew her children when they were young. The talent continued on, and one of her children, Barbara, is now a celebrated artist as well. Carol has a beautiful way of portraying light in her drawings and landscapes. Many of her scenes are inspired by the Bighorn Mountains and valleys.
Summer by the Pond, $375, Carol Berry
Marge Davey joined one of the first art guilds in our area in the 1950s with Bill Wright and Mary Burgess. She has since made many watercolors and ceramic pieces. She has fallen into the routine of doing ceramics in the winter months, growing flowers in the spring, and then painting them in the summer months. She enjoys painting on Yupo paper, giving each piece a bit of freedom.
Coneflowers, $150, Marge Davey
Charlie Walter started painting with Dayton’s own Alice Fuller after he retired. Charlie is a great example of how one can continue to grow and learn through every chapter of life. Charlie’s paintings reflect his personality perfectly. He has his opinions, and he wants you to make your own. Charlie loves fly fishing, and you can tell from the scenes he paints that the areas he spent time in are burned into his memories.
Impending, $195, Charlie Walter
Jan Hodson, while balancing parenthood and her career, has also had great success in the art world. She has painted hundreds of pieces and rarely has more than 6 or 8 of them on hand. She typically sells everything she paints. Her work stands out in everyone's memories as she has mastered using a palette knife and leaves the paintbrushes to the other artists. Her landscapes and aspen trees capture the light and texture of the paint in a way everyone is drawn to.
Verdant Reflections Verdant, $2800, Jan Hodson
Paulette Kucera has been a kind and supportive soul in the Sheridan art community for a long time. Paulette is an inspiration to many, many members of our community. She is well known for her stained glass work, but has conquered that and now is mastering weaving. All along, she has been doing oil and watercolor paintings of streetscapes and landscapes. She enjoys taking an area that might not have gotten a second look and then catching it in the right light and showing the beauty we miss in the mundane and simple life moments.
Breaking the Rules, $425, Paulette Kucera
Kay Kusel has been all over the Bighorn mountains on horseback and four-wheelers from her years of ranching. The knowledge she has of this area is nothing short of impressive. As far as I know, she can name every valley, stream, path, lookout, and butte up there. Her acrylic, oil, and pastel landscapes show the Bighorns as we see them, deadfall and all. The way Kay can capture details with pastels has always been impressive.
